If you have a: Nook Color, Nook Tablet or Nook HD/HD+
You can download: 3M Cloud Library eBooks over wifi using the free 3M Cloud Library App for Nook
Note: The older method of using the 3M Cloud Library App for PC and transferring ebooks from the PC to the Nook using the included USB cable still works, and is required for users with e-ink Nook models such as the Nook 3G/WiFi and Nook Simple Touch/Simple Touch with Glowlight. Click here for those instructions.
1. Open the “shop” on your Nook and search for “3M Cloud Library.” Download and install the free app.
(Alternately, you can use a web browser to access the app at Barnes & Noble.com, click on “Download,” and log in with your Barnes & Noble account information. The app will download to your Nook the next time you sync over wifi.)
2. Tap the 3M Cloud Library icon to run the app.
Select South Carolina as your state and Richland County PL as your library. (It doesn’t matter which branch you choose.)
Enter your library card number. Tap the End User License Agreement, click Agree, then tap Login.
3. You are now ready to search for and download eBooks, read them, and check them back in early (optional).
The navigation icons at the top of the screen allow you to browse by Shelves or by Categories, to Search, or to view your Books.
The following slideshow demonstrates how to download and use the 3M Cloud Library mobile app. (Note: the slideshow depicts an iPad, but the NOOK app shares the same features.)
Once you have “checked out” and opened a book, tapping once in the center area of the open eBook will reveal more options. Click on the Gear icon that appears at the top of the screen to adjust reading preferences. Click on the “Books on a shelf” button that appears in the top left corner to exit the eBook and return to your “shelf.” Click on the “square dotted-line” in the top right corner to make a bookmark or add an annotation. You can return a book early by clicking on the lowercase “i” and tapping the red “Check In” button.
Why don’t I see my 3M Cloud Library ebooks in my Nook Library?
3M Cloud Library is a self-contained application, so all of your interaction with RCPL’s 3M Cloud Library ebooks takes place within the app. This includes browsing, checking out titles, and reading ebooks. To access your 3M Cloud Library ebooks, open the 3M Cloud Library app on your Nook and select My Books from the menu at the top. Tap the book you’d like to read to open it.
Will 3M Cloud Library app work on my Nook 3G/WiFi or Nook Simple Touch/Glowlight?
The 3M Cloud Library app for Nook is only available for Nook Color, Tablet, HD/HD+, and above. However, users with e-ink Nooks like the original Nook and the Nook Simple Touch can check out 3M ebooks using the 3M Cloud Library app on their PC, and then transfer the ebooks to their Nook using the included USB cord. Click here for instructions.
Chapter links, like the Table of Contents, don’t seem to work.
Hyperlinks don’t work at this time, but users can navigate to the table of contents by tapping the center of the screen while reading a book, then tapping the “i” that appears at the top of the page and selecting “table of contents”.
The dictionary feature (holding your finger on a word to define it) doesn’t work/ The fonts are different from what I use on my Nook.
3M Cloud Library’s reading features do differ from the basic Nook ebook reading application. Font size, margins, and night mode can be adjusted within 3M Cloud Library on the Nook by tapping the center of the screen while reading a book, then tapping the gear icon that appears at the top of the page.
If a customer prefers the Nook reading experience, it is still possible to check out 3M ebooks using the 3M Cloud Library app on a PC, and then transfer ebooks to the Nook using the included USB cord. This will allow the Nook’s built-in reading features, like the dictionary and built-in display preferences. Click here for instructions.
